Trip to Scotland
When: 4 days at the end of August 2007
Who: My wife Rita and me
Why: because I wanted to see where David Hume and Adam Smith lived and I also wanted to visit New Lanark, the place where the great Robert Owen started improving worker's conditions.

It is a great trip, with amazing landscapes and a lot to see.
Of course it is recommended to read Owen, Smith and Hume if one has to really enjoy this trip.

Itinerary: we flew from Forli to Stanstead, we rented a car and drove north on the M1, stopping briefly at Rutland Waters. We reached the beautiful village of Richmond in time for dinner, we slept in Willance House, a very good B&B that I recommend. Next morning we went on to Berwick, near the birthplace of David Hume, where we slept (and had an excellent dinner) at the Queens Head Pub. We then visited Holy Island (Lindisfarne) whose road is flooded with the high tide, and then we crossed Scotland headed for New Lanark, to visit Robert Owen's factory, now refurbished under the patronage of Unesco: a beautiful place to visit. Finally we went to Kirkcaldy, where adam Smith was born, and spent one day in the beautiful Edinburgh, one of the most fascinating places in the world, where we could visit the places of the great David Hume and Adam Smith.
